The ground floor zone of the traditional Hotel Kummer was to be redesigned to convey a contemporary image. The new red canopy in the entrance area in the middle of Mariahilfer Straße already sets a modern example. The historical substance was carefully renovated and supplemented with new elements. The reception counter and lobby bar have been redesigned, but the classic chandeliers and patterned carpeting have been retained. The atrium was roofed over and a restaurant was housed on this newly gained area. Generous skylights continue to suggest the feeling of the former atrium. The lighting concept with a mix of new standing and hanging lamps as well as the old glass chandeliers from the 1950s creates a varied environment with intimate light zones. Thanks to the design with warm red and brown tones, furniture with a walnut surface and carpets in varying shades of red, the new areas are seamlessly integrated into the historical structure.
The competition as well as the execution took place in cooperation with HÜBNER ZT GMBH.
